The Spanish Artitst received the decoration of Knight of the Legion of Honor from the president of the French Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy, at the Elysée Palace in Paris, last Tuesday the 18th.
At the privately held ceremony, the French president stessed that the decoration was accorded as much to the man as to the singer; „Dear Julio, you are a Frenchman at heart and of all the qualities of a Man and an Artist, one word comes to mind when I think of your career. And that word is, of course, Love.”, declared Sarkozy.
He also emphasized Julio Iglesias’ values such as „friendship, courage, honesty, hard-work, and generosity”, and as an artist his „intuition, sensitivity, and appreciation of beauty, which undoubtedly explains the priveleged relationship with our country”.
The French president added that Julio Iglesias is „in love with life, in love with music and in love with France”.
